2011 CMLI Con: experiences...winnings...memories!

Image
The CMLI Con has remained one of the annual activities that I always look forward to. Being with the students is something that entails not only responsibility...but also bonding (being together for days) and jubilation in the moments of winning. In as much as enjoyment is concerned, this year's Baguio Con is not like the previous confabs we had...for it seems I was not able to enjoy to the fullest :( yet, whatever experiences I had...I still have to appreciate the company of those made my days happy...in their own little way. How I wish I had done my part to the fullest, where fun and laughters are always in the air. Winnings are always an integral part of any convention. It makes us happy, rewarded and blessed. It somehow adds adrenaline to make your remaining days an exciting one. Yet, it doesnt mean that loosing is the end of the world...for contest is a game. Like the brave soldiers in a battlefield, student-delegates must always be ready...not just in joining contests bu

Thanks for the wonderful year! As the school year is about to end...I would like to say some words of thanks and few reminders to guide you as you journey to the next level of your education-the junior year. One academic year is enough for me to know each and everyone in the class. I know, ours is not a smooth sailin one..as we had share of misunderstanding, miscommunications and petty problems on your behaviors. yet, as your teacher- you were able to show me that you are 'good followers and disciplined enough.' I appreciate you for this! It's obvious that individual differences-(indivuality) is one of the reasons why sometimes its quite difficult for you to stand as one, but with constant advising and persistent efforts to work hard toward one goal- again, you prove to me and to others that you can achieve something and be victorious on

History Mystery:

Have a history teacher explain this if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head Now it gets really weird. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln . Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln , was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln , was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lin

•Stopped just LISTENING to a friend’s problems and started actually CARING about them. Believe me; they’ll be able to tell the difference. •Said hello to a random stranger. Some people might give you a weird look, but you never know when you’re missing out on meeting someone amazing because of words unspoken. •Walked away from an argument before they say something they’ll regret later. Once you set your mind to it, it’s not hard to be the bigger person. •Stopped caring about what everyone else thinks. If you have time to care, then you’re not really living life. •Didn’t believe what people who DON'T MATTER say. They’re just trying to hurt you, so don’t bother listening. •Expressed what they feel. Even anger and hurt are better than no emotion at all. •Apologized when they know they’re wrong. Pride can’t keep you company on a cold night. •Allowed themselves to love. It’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. •Complained about th

Coping with that toxic emotion

Image
"Anger, that toxic emotion, you can't just ignore.” You'll feel better if you let it go. Can you remember an instance when someone points his finger to you blaming you for things you don’t even understand, a situation where you’re not even a part of, accusing you for the crime that’s obviously not your fault? Or simply put- you were blamed because someone’s expectations were not met…Did you experience being embarrassed in front of many people by irresponsible outburst of emotion? How did you react then? Of course, different reactions to different situations. If you really have nothing to do with the situation, natural reaction would be…”What the hell is he doing to me?” Why make himself so mad by shouting at the top of his voice without even trying to find out what really happened prior to the outburst of his “as high as skyscraper’s” voice. In a situation like this- its better to ‘keep your cool’ so you can relay the message with utmost understanding. Moreover,

On Teaching and Teachers

Teachers are today’s greatest heroes. We have lots of heroes actually- sportsmen, m edia personalities, supermodels. They come, they have their 15 minutes of fame, and they go. But the popularity of teachers never wanes. My memory is teeming with beautiful thoughts about my teachers then. I have so much to say about them, especially that I was able to witness how patient and how hard working they are. Being educated in a rural public school, I know how hard the life of a teachers, and of course the ordeals that they have to bear,as they are expected then to reach unattainable goals with inadequate tools. The miracle is that, they accomplished the impossible task with flying colors. Teachers are expected to perform the peculiar dual task of inculcating knowledge while at the same time breaking down resistance to its inculcation. Many expect them to serve to a large degree as surrogate parents dealing with the emotional tangles and torments of the adolescents yea

BETRAYAL

How would it feel to know someone is crying because of you at this very moment? How would it feel to simply know that because of you, a person’s beautiful reflection is shattered, like a pretty held with care vase into fragments of baneful glass. I doubt it would feel pleasant. Such guilt would it bring to my conscience If ever I experience such. Deep shame and self blame would overpower my heart. Some things are really best left unsaid. The tongue is indeed sharp, it can slice a person’s dignity clearly in two, if ever certain matters are declared and talked about. So knowing this, why cause an outrage? A scandal? For what purpose? To prolong or extend a new chapter to an already- closed story. Matters were already settled and the broken vase was ‘seemingly’ wholeheartedly fixed. And the story was better left cut short. Why is here a need to open the story for additional writing? Why not think of the consequences when you speak? Why not consider the outcomes befor

I am a TEACHER :)

What I do and say are being absorbed by young minds who will echo these images across the ages. My lessons will be immortal, affecting people yet unborn, people I will never see or know. The future of the world is in my classroom today, a future with the potential for good or bad. The pliable minds of tomorrow's leaders will be molded either artistically or grotesquely by what I do. Several future presidents are learning from me today; so are the great writers of the next decades, and so are all the so-called ordinary people who will make the decisions in a democracy. I must never forget these same young people could be the thieves or murderers of the future. Only a teacher? Thank God I have a calling to the greatest profession of all! I must be vigilant every day lest I lose one fragile opportunity to improve tomorrow. ~~~Ivan Welton Fitzwater
